What Window Tint Actually Does
Window tint’s a thin polymer film applied to the interior surface of vehicle glass. The film blocks visible light, infrared heat, and ultraviolet radiation entering the cabin. Amount blocked depends on film type and the visible light transmission percentage chosen.
Heat rejection’s the dominant practical benefit in Texas. Summer sun loads the cabin through every glass surface. A vehicle that’s parked outside for two hours can reach 140 degrees on the dashboard. Tint with proper IR-rejecting technology measurably reduces cabin temperature, which means the air conditioning runs less hard, fuel economy on gas vehicles improves slightly, and battery range on electric vehicles improves measurably.
UV protection’s the second major benefit. Texas UV exposure degrades leather, vinyl, plastic, and electronics over time. Quality tint blocks 99 percent of UV-A and UV-B, extending the practical life of every interior surface. Remaining benefits are glare reduction during sunrise and sunset commutes, increased privacy, and the visual finish many owners prefer. The Three AVIA Tiers
Most tint conversations start with two questions: how dark and which tier. The darkness conversation’s a Texas tint law conversation (covered in the next section). The tier conversation’s about IR heat rejection performance.
AVIA CARBON is the entry-level option. It uses carbon-based heat rejection technology. The visual finish’s excellent and the heat rejection’s significant compared to no tint at all. CARBON is the right choice for customers who want quality tint at a more accessible price point and don’t need the maximum IR rejection performance of the ceramic tiers.
AVIA IR CERAMIC is the mid-tier option and the most popular choice for our customers. Ceramic nano-particles in the film selectively block infrared radiation while maintaining excellent optical clarity. IR rejection’s measurably higher than CARBON. For Austin and Round Rock summer driving, IR CERAMIC’s the sweet spot between performance and value.
AVIA CERAMIC IR PLUS is the flagship product. IR rejection percentages are at the highest end of the industry. Optical clarity’s excellent. This is the right choice for premium vehicles, EVs where range preservation’s a priority, and customers who park outside in full Texas sun regularly. Most of our Tesla customers choose CERAMIC IR PLUS for the range preservation benefit.
Texas Tint Law Compliance
Texas tint law under Transportation Code Section 547.613 specifies legal limits for window tint on passenger vehicles in Texas. We’ve built our installation process around these specifications and we measure every window with a calibrated meter before and after installation.
The legal specifications are:
Front side windows must allow at least 25 percent visible light transmission. Anything below 25 percent VLT is illegal for daily driving and will fail Texas state vehicle inspection.
Windshield may have tint only on the top five inches above the AS-1 line, or above the manufacturer-marked windshield tint band. Below that line, the windshield must remain factory clear.
Rear side windows and back glass may be any darkness if the vehicle has functional dual side mirrors. Without dual side mirrors, the back windows must also meet 25 percent VLT minimum.
Reflectivity must not exceed 25 percent on any window. This means mirror-finish tints and metallic-reflective films aren’t legal in Texas.
We’ll provide compliance documentation with every installation. If a vehicle is stopped or fails inspection due to tint compliance after our installation, we cover the inspection re-test and any required film adjustment.
Window Tint and Vehicle Type
The right window tint solution varies by vehicle. We adapt the conversation to vehicle type, ownership horizon, and use pattern.
For luxury daily drivers including BMW protection clients and Mercedes protection customers, ceramic tint preserves the leather, wood, and electronic surfaces that are expensive to replace.
For performance vehicles, Porsche protection coverage commonly bundles ceramic tint with PPF and ceramic coating. Track day vehicles particularly benefit because IR rejection reduces cabin temperature during long sessions at COTA. Audi RS and S-line owners appreciate the optical clarity of the ceramic tiers.
For Lexus customers, Lexus protection coverage is a long-ownership conversation. Investment in CERAMIC IR PLUS pays back through interior preservation.
For Tesla and other EVs, ceramic tint translates directly to range preservation. Reduced cabin sun load means the climate control system runs less hard. For Cybertruck protection clients, we coordinate tint with the stainless-specific PPF protocols.
Pairing Window Tint with Other Services
Window tint installation’s commonly bundled with STEK paint protection film and GYEON ceramic coating. These three services together protect the vehicle from sun, debris, and contamination on every surface.
When all three are scheduled together, we sequence the work efficiently: PPF goes on first, ceramic coating after that’s cured, tint installed in parallel. Multi-service appointments take three to four days for a sedan or SUV. Our ceramic coating package tiers detail the package options and which scenarios match which tier.
For ongoing care, our maintenance car wash program is calibrated for vehicles with tint, PPF, and ceramic. Two-bucket technique, pH-neutral products, deionized water filtered under 10 PPM. The wash routine that preserves tint adhesion’s the same routine that preserves PPF and ceramic coating.
What Installation Looks Like
Window tint installation’s a precision job done in a clean room environment. Dust contamination creates visible imperfections that show in direct sunlight years later.
We begin with a vehicle inspection. We measure each existing window with a VLT meter to document the factory baseline, identify any rear defroster lines, antenna lines, or aftermarket modifications, and discuss tint scope (front sides only, all sides, all sides plus rear, or full vehicle including windshield strip).
Glass preparation comes next. Every window receives a deep clean with isopropyl alcohol to remove manufacturing residue and contamination. Interior trim near the windows is masked.
We use computer-cut patterns for film cutting specific to each vehicle. We cut on a clean table separate from the install area to prevent dust contamination. The film’s applied wet, with careful squeegee technique to remove water and air without stretching or distorting the film. AVIA ceramic film requires a 7 to 14 day cure period before the adhesive fully bonds.

What's window tint made of?

What's the darkest legal tint in Texas?

Does ceramic tint really reduce cabin temperature?
Yes, measurably. Ceramic tint with proper IR rejection blocks the infrared radiation that produces cabin heat. AVIA CERAMIC IR PLUS blocks the highest percentage of IR in the industry. Real-world cabin temperature’s consistently 15 to 25 degrees lower with ceramic tint compared to no tint on a sunny Texas summer afternoon.
How long does window tint installation take?
A standard four-door sedan with all side windows takes about two to three hours. Vehicles with all sides plus back glass take three to four hours. SUVs with larger glass surfaces take longer. Vehicles requiring windshield strip work take longer because of the curvature work involved.
Will window tint affect my factory warranty?
No. Aftermarket window tint installation doesn’t affect manufacturer warranty on the vehicle. Rear defroster lines remain functional after installation. Some vehicles with built-in antennas in the rear glass may have minor signal effect, which we discuss before installation if relevant.
Can I roll down my windows after installation?
Not for several days. The film needs a 7 to 14 day cure period depending on temperature and humidity. We’ll provide specific instructions at pickup. Rolling the windows during cure can pull the film edges loose before the adhesive sets. After cure, windows operate normally with no restrictions.
Do you tint windshields?
Yes. We install the legal top-five-inch strip above the AS-1 line on most vehicles. The strip reduces sunrise and sunset glare significantly. Some vehicles with very high windshields or specialized ADAS sensor placement require different treatment, which we discuss during consultation. Full windshield ceramic tint (clear or near-clear film across the entire windshield) is available for some configurations.
Can you remove old tint from a previous installation?
Yes. We remove old tint before installing new film. Old film removal requires steam, careful peeling, and adhesive cleanup. Vehicles with rear defroster lines require particular care during removal because aggressive removal can damage the defroster grid. We’ll provide pricing for combined removal and re-installation during consultation.
