The Frozen Series Problem Most Shops Get Wrong
BMW’s Frozen paint lineup is one of the most mishandled finishes in the protection industry.
Frozen Black, Frozen White, Frozen Blue, Frozen Grey, Frozen Red, and other Frozen Individual colors are factory matte finishes. They look nothing like standard gloss paint. The surface has a depth and character that gloss paint can’t replicate.
Standard gloss PPF applied over a Frozen finish adds a gloss layer over the matte surface. The matte look disappears. Most owners don’t realize this until the film is already in the car.
The correct film for any BMW Frozen finish is STEK DYNOmatte. DYNOmatte is designed specifically for matte and satin surfaces. It preserves the Frozen character, adds the same self-healing protection as DYNOshield, and carries a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty. It won’t change the look of the paint.
If a shop installs standard-gloss PPF on your Frozen BMW, the only fix is to remove the film and start over. We get the film right the first time.
BMW Frozen Paint and Correction
This is the second area where Frozen owners run into trouble.
Frozen paint cannot be machine-polished. Traditional correction compounds are designed for clear coat paint. On a Frozen surface, they remove the matte texture, leaving polished spots. The damage is visible and difficult to reverse.
Before any Frozen BMW enters our facility for PPF or ceramic coating, we thoroughly document the current surface condition. We do not run standard paint correction on Frozen paint. We use specialized techniques for all surface-defect work.
If a Frozen BMW comes in with defects that can’t be addressed safely, we tell the owner before we start. We don’t find out mid-correction.
Standard BMW Paint and the Correction Approach
On standard gloss BMW paint, our process follows the same careful steps we use on any performance vehicle.
We start with a full paint-depth assessment of every panel. BMW Individual colors and M series vehicles with factory-applied paint can vary in clear coat depth. We read every panel before correction starts.
Our BMW paint correction adapts to the depth reading. A thinner clear coat means more conservative compound selection and shorter working time. We check the depth again mid-correction on any panel that reads near the threshold.
The correction step matters because a coating or film locks in whatever the paint looks like when it’s applied. Swirl marks present at the application stay there. We don’t skip or rush it.
STEK PPF for BMW
We install STEK USA film on all BMW models. Our STEK paint film coverage options include partial and full vehicle coverage, with film selection matched to the paint finish.
For standard gloss paint: DYNOshield is the standard choice: gloss, self-healing, 10-year warranty.
For Frozen finishes: DYNOmatte only. No exceptions.
For M series owners who want a slightly different look: DYNOblack (stealth) or DYNOprism (color-shift) are available on gloss paint.
Edge wrapping is standard in our process. We extend patterns and wrap edges wherever the BMW’s panel geometry allows. Cut edges on flat surfaces are vulnerable. We wrap where we can.
For BMW paint protection film coverage options, partial front-end packages cover the highest-impact zones. Full vehicle covers every painted surface. M3 and M4 Competition models with the carbon fiber roof option get film applied to the CF panels using the same careful heat-controlled technique we use on all carbon fiber surfaces.
GYEON Ceramic Coating for BMW
Our GYEON ceramic service applies to BMW gloss paint, directly over PPF, or to glass surfaces. GYEON Quartz is a professional-only product available exclusively through certified installers.
On gloss BMW paint, ceramic coating adds UV protection, resistance to contamination, and hydrophobic properties, making the vehicle significantly easier to maintain. Austin’s cedar pollen season runs from January through March and deposits heavily on every vehicle outdoors. I-35 and MoPac contribute road film daily. A GYEON coating makes both easier to remove without scratching.
For X5 and X6 M owners who drive daily, contamination resistance is the primary win. Brake dust from M performance pads is aggressive. It embeds faster into unprotected paint. A coated surface resists that buildup and releases it faster on wash day.
On Frozen paint, ceramic coating behaves differently. It can slightly alter the surface texture of Frozen finishes. We discuss this with every Frozen owner before applying ceramic to bare paint. On top of DYNOmatte PPF, ceramic applies normally.
We also offer glass ceramic coating for panoramic and standard BMW glass. Coated glass sheds Texas rain faster and resists water spotting from sprinklers and Austin’s hard water.
BMW iX and i4 in Austin
The iX and i4 have sold well in Austin. Both models are available in standard gloss and BMW Individual colors.
EV owners tend to drive their vehicles more daily than weekend sports car owners. That increases debris exposure significantly. The full-front PPF combined with a ceramic coating is the most common package we build for iX and i4 owners.
The iX’s large front kidney grille area is a particular concern. The mesh collects debris, exposing the surrounding painted trim. We address the grille surround and lower front specifically in our iX packages.
M Series and Track Use
BMW M3, M4, M5, M8, and M2 owners in Central Texas regularly run COTA. Track use significantly increases the risk of a chip. Debris from other vehicles, gravel at corner exits, and brake dust contamination compound fast during a track day.
We build M-series protection packages around actual usage. A street M3 that sees occasional spirited driving has different needs than an M4 CS that runs COTA quarterly. We ask about usage before recommending coverage scope.
After the Install
Our BMW maintenance wash uses pH-neutral products, proper two-bucket technique, and deionized water filtered under 10 PPM. This matters particularly for Frozen paint owners. Incorrect wash technique on Frozen paint causes visible streaking and texture damage. We use the correct products and process every time.
For BMW interior detailing and full-service detail work, we handle them alongside protection appointments or as standalone visits.
For other performance vehicle protection, see our Porsche protection page.

BMW Protection FAQs
What BMW models do you protect?
We protect the full BMW lineup, including 3 Series, 4 Series, 5 Series, 7 Series, 8 Series, X3, X5, X6, M2, M3, M4, M5, M8, iX, i4, and all M Performance variants. Frozen Individual models are welcome, provided the correct film is selected.
What film goes on a BMW with a Frozen paint finish?
STEK DYNOmatte only. Standard gloss PPF adds a gloss layer over the Frozen matte surface, changing the look of the paint. DYNOmatte preserves the Frozen character, provides the same self-healing protection as DYNOshield, and carries a 10-year manufacturer warranty. We don’t install gloss film on Frozen paint.
Can you machine polish a BMW Frozen finish?
No. Traditional machine-polishing compounds remove the matte texture of Frozen paint, leaving polished spots. We don’t run standard corrections on Frozen surfaces. We document the surface condition on arrival and discuss any defects with the owner before starting.
What's the difference between a front-end package and a full vehicle PPF on a BMW?
A front-end package covers the hood, front bumper, front fenders, mirrors, and sometimes the headlights. These are the highest-impact zones for stone chips and debris. Full vehicle covers every painted surface. For daily drivers and track cars, a full vehicle is worth considering. For occasional drivers focused on the most vulnerable areas, a front-end package is cost-effective.
Can you apply ceramic coating to BMW Frozen paint?
On bare Frozen paint, ceramic coating can slightly alter the surface texture. We discuss this with every Frozen owner before applying ceramic directly to the paint. Applied over DYNOmatte PPF, the ceramic coating works normally and adds UV and contamination resistance to the film surface.
Do you work on M-series track cars?
Yes. We build M series packages around actual usage. A street M3 has different coverage needs than an M4 CS running COTA quarterly. We ask about how the car is used before making coverage recommendations. Track use significantly increases the risk of stone chips.
How do you handle the BMW iX front grille area?
The iX’s large kidney grille surround is a significant point of exposure. We address the grille surround trim and lower front section specifically in iX protection packages. The surrounding painted and plastic trim areas are included in the coverage plan.
Is ceramic coating worth it on a BMW already under PPF?
Yes. Ceramic over PPF protects the film surface from UV degradation and contamination, making maintenance significantly easier. The hydrophobic surface sheds brake dust, road film, and pollen faster than bare film. We apply GYEON Quartz over PPF on most combination packages.
How long does a BMW PPF installation take?
A front-end package on a 3 Series or X5 typically takes one to two days. Full-vehicle coverage takes three to four days, depending on the model and complexity. M3 and M4 Competition models with the carbon fiber roof option take longer. We provide a timeline after reviewing the specific vehicle.
Do you serve BMW owners from Austin?
Yes. We’re about 20 minutes from central Austin and serve BMW owners from across the greater Austin area. Call (512) 888-9310 or schedule a consultation online to discuss your vehicle.
