Atomic Auto Spa

Cybertruck Protection

Atomic Auto Spa is a certified STEK USA installer in Round Rock, offering PPF and ceramic coating for the Cybertruck’s bare stainless steel exterior. Stainless has no paint, no clear coat. The prep process and film-adhesion approach differ from standard vehicle installs.

We see more Cybertrucks here than in most shops in Central Texas. The Austin Gigafactory delivers them in volume to the Round Rock and Austin area. We know the vehicle, we know the material, and we’ve worked out the process.

Why Stainless Steel Changes Everything

Every other vehicle we protect has paint. The paint has a clear coat on top. The clear coat is what we’re reading with a paint depth gauge, correcting before film installation, and ultimately protecting.

The Cybertruck has none of that. The stainless steel panels are the finish. There’s no paint base layer. No clear coat. The film bonds directly to bare metal.

This isn’t a problem. It’s just different. But it means shops that install PPF on painted vehicles all day may not be set up to do this correctly. The prep process changes. The adhesion approach changes. The expectations for the final result change.

We’ve built our process around the material.

What Stainless Steel Actually Needs Protection From

Stainless steel is extremely durable. It’s also not invulnerable.

Rock chips and road debris still damage it. On painted vehicles, a chip removes paint, exposing bare metal underneath. On a Cybertruck, a chip directly damages the stainless surface itself. That’s harder to address after the fact.

The surface also clearly shows fingerprints, smudge marks, and contact marks. Without a protective layer, the exterior needs constant attention to stay looking clean.

Over time, without protection, stainless steel can develop oxidation spots (sometimes called tea staining). This happens when contaminants embed in surface micro-scratches, creating localized corrosion. Central Texas has enough road chemicals, I-35 construction debris, and seasonal cedar pollen to accelerate this process.

PPF creates a sacrificial surface layer that absorbs the impacts and contamination before they reach the stainless steel itself.

The STEK Film We Use on Cybertrucks

We install STEK paint protection film on every Cybertruck that comes through our shop. Our full STEK PPF service covers all standard vehicles. STEK is what we use across all our PPF work  –  it’s the brand we trained on, the brand we’re certified to install, and the brand we trust on high-value vehicles.

For Cybertrucks specifically, the prep and installation process is adapted for the stainless surface. Film adhesion on bare metal differs from that on a painted clear coat. The surface has to be clean at a different level. Contamination that you might tolerate on a painted vehicle can prevent proper bonding on stainless steel.

We use deionized water filtered under 10 PPM throughout our prep process. We work in a climate-controlled indoor facility. Those aren’t extras for Cybertruck installs  –  they’re requirements.

We offer partial and full-vehicle coverage. Most Cybertruck owners start with the highest-impact zones: front bumper, hood leading edge, front fenders, and rocker panels. Full-vehicle is also an option for owners who want full protection across the entire stainless exterior.

We include paint correction in every standard PPF installation  –  but on the Cybertruck, there’s no paint to correct. What we do instead is thorough surface decontamination: a two-stage wash, an iron-fallout treatment, and a panel-prep wipe-down specific to bare metal. The goal is the same  –  a clean, contaminant-free surface before the film goes on.

Our edge wrapping approach extends patterns and wraps edges wherever the geometry allows. The Cybertruck’s angular design differs from traditional vehicles, but the principle is the same: a film cut at an edge exposes the edge. We wrap where we can.

Ceramic Coating on the Cybertruck

Some Cybertruck owners prefer ceramic coating over PPF. Others want both  –  PPF on the high-impact zones, ceramic over the top.

Our GYEON ceramic coating page can be applied directly to bare stainless steel or over installed PPF. On bare stainless steel, the coating creates a hydrophobic surface that repels water, resists contamination, and makes it significantly easier to maintain. Fingerprints and smudges still happen  –  but they wipe off faster and don’t embed into the surface.

Applied over PPF, the ceramic coating protects the film surface from UV degradation and contamination. It’s a common combination among Cybertruck owners who want both impact protection and simplicity in surface maintenance.

We’re a certified GYEON Quartz installer. The same certification and process standards that apply to our other ceramic coating work apply here.

How the Install Works

Every Cybertruck installation starts with a consultation. We assess the specific vehicle’s condition, discuss coverage options, and walk through the options. We don’t apply the same template to every vehicle.

From there:

Surface decontamination. We run a two-stage decontamination process adapted for bare stainless. This includes an iron fallout treatment and clay bar work. On painted vehicles, we’d follow this with paint correction. On the Cybertruck, we move directly to panel prep solution after decontamination is complete.

Panel prep. Every panel gets wiped with a prep solution that removes residue and creates a clean bonding surface. This step is where most shops cut corners. On stainless, skipping it leads to adhesion problems.

Film cutting and application. Patterns are cut digitally. Application happens in our climate-controlled facility. Temperature and humidity affect how film sets  –  an indoor controlled environment matters more with stainless than with painted surfaces because there’s no clear coat buffer.

Inspection. After installation, every panel is reviewed under high-intensity lighting. We check adhesion, edges, and surface contact before the vehicle leaves.

Cybertruck Protection FAQs

The film itself is the same product we use on painted vehicles. What changes is the surface preparation and installation approach. Stainless steel has no paint or clear coat, so the film bonds directly to bare metal. The prep process is different  –  no paint correction, but a more thorough surface decontamination and a bare-metal panel prep solution before installation.

Yes, when the surface is prepared correctly. The key is proper decontamination and panel prep. Contaminants that wouldn’t prevent adhesion on a painted surface can interfere with bonding on bare stainless. We use a prep process specific to metal surfaces, deionized water filtered under 10 PPM, and a climate-controlled facility to ensure correct adhesion.

Gloss film is essentially transparent and maintains the appearance of the stainless surface beneath it. STEK DYNOmatte film gives a satin finish if you want to slightly shift the look. Most Cybertruck owners use gloss film to preserve the stock stainless appearance while adding protection.

Yes, for different reasons than on painted vehicles. On a painted car, ceramic coating protects the clear coat from UV and contamination. On a Cybertruck, it creates a hydrophobic surface layer directly on the stainless steel, making it significantly easier to maintain and keep clean. Fingerprints and road grime release faster from a coated surface. For owners who also want exterior detailing services between protection appointments, we handle that too. We apply GYEON Quartz ceramic coatings to stainless steel directly or over installed PPF.

No  –  there’s no paint to correct. On painted vehicles, we assess paint condition, run standard paint correction, then install film. On the Cybertruck, we skip the paint correction step entirely and proceed directly to surface decontamination and panel prep. The goal is the same: a clean, defect-free surface for film adhesion. The process is different because the material is different.

The highest-impact zones are the front bumper, hood leading edge, front fenders, and rocker panels  –  the same areas we prioritize on any vehicle. The Cybertruck’s angular design means some areas are easier to wrap than traditional curved panels, while the complex corners and angles in others require greater precision. We’ll walk through coverage options during your consultation and recommend based on your usage and priorities.

A full-vehicle Cybertruck PPF installation typically takes three to four days. Partial coverage on high-impact zones can take one to two days, depending on the scope. We provide an accurate timeline after reviewing the vehicle in person.

STEK’s manufacturer warranty covers the film itself. On painted vehicles, the STEK DYNOshield and DYNOmatte films carry a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty. We’ll walk through warranty coverage specifics for stainless steel applications during your consultation, since the substrate is non-standard.

Yes. PPF on high-impact zones, combined with a ceramic coating on top, is a common combination. The ceramic coating protects the film surface from UV degradation and contamination, and makes the coated surface easier to maintain. We handle both services and coordinate the installation sequence.

Yes. We’re 20 minutes from central Austin and regularly serve owners from across the greater Austin metro. Given the nearby Gigafactory, we see a significant number of Cybertrucks from across Central Texas. We also protect other other EV models we protect, including Model 3, Model Y, and Model S.
